DomainDomain Rating (DR)

Domain Rating data by Ahrefs. Results are cached for up to 30 days. Free fair-use limit: 30 checks per day — in the HarbiLeads app, DR appears automatically next to every domain you find, with no web limit.

The Basics

What is Domain Rating (DR)?

Domain Rating (DR) is an Ahrefs metric that measures the strength of a website's backlink profile on a scale from 0 to 100. A higher DR means more — and stronger — websites link to the domain. DR is calculated from the quantity and quality of referring domains, and it is logarithmic: moving from DR 20 to DR 30 is far easier than moving from DR 70 to DR 80, because each step up needs an exponentially stronger link profile than the last.

Two things DR is not: it is not a Google metric, and Google does not use it to rank pages. It is a third-party estimate that SEO professionals use as a shortcut when they compare websites — for example, when deciding which blogs are worth a guest post pitch. Used together with real traffic data, it is one of the fastest ways to sort a long list of prospect sites into "worth it" and "skip".

How It Works

How to check Domain Rating in bulk

STEP 1

Paste your domains

Add up to 50 domains, one per line. Full URLs work too — the checker strips the protocol and paths automatically.

STEP 2

Run the check

Click "Check Domain Rating". Ratings come from Ahrefs data; domains checked recently return instantly from cache.

STEP 3

Sort and shortlist

Compare the DR values side by side, download the results as CSV, and shortlist the sites that deserve your outreach.

Interpreting Scores

What is a good Domain Rating?

There is no universal "good" score — it depends on your niche and your goal. As a practical guide for link building and guest posting, most SEOs read the scale like this:

DR rangeWhat it usually meansGuest post verdict
0 – 10New or barely-linked site; almost no referring domains.Only if it has real traffic or is highly relevant to your niche.
11 – 30Small but growing site with a basic link profile.Acceptable for easy placements; check traffic first.
31 – 50Established site with a solid base of referring domains. The sweet spot for most guest post budgets.
51 – 70Strong authority site; links here usually cost more.High value — verify traffic is real before paying premium prices.
71 – 100Major publishers and global brands.Rarely sells guest posts; treat "cheap DR 80" offers as a red flag.

One warning from experience: DR can be inflated with cheap link schemes, but real organic traffic is much harder to fake. A DR 35 site with 20,000 monthly visitors will usually move your rankings more than a DR 55 site with zero traffic. Use this checker to filter the list — then sanity-check the finalists' traffic before you spend money.

Know The Difference

Domain Rating vs Domain Authority

Domain Rating (DR) and Domain Authority (DA) are often confused because both run from 0 to 100 and both estimate backlink strength. They come from different companies — DR from Ahrefs, DA from Moz — and each is calculated from that company's own link database and algorithm. The same website will therefore have two different scores, and neither one is a Google ranking factor. If a seller quotes DA and you check DR (or the other way around), compare like with like: pick one metric, and judge every site on your list with that same metric. This checker gives you DR, the metric most guest post buyers and link builders trade on today.

Go Further

Found good domains? Now find their emails

A DR score tells you a site is worth pitching — it does not tell you who to pitch. In HarbiLeads, the check happens the other way around: paste your website list into the Bulk Email Finder, and every admin email it finds comes back with that domain's DR already attached, so you can sort prospects by authority and start a campaign in the same place. Emails are then run through the built-in Email Verifier and sent with the Email Sender — find, verify, and pitch without leaving one app.

FAQ

Common questions about the DR Checker

Is this Domain Rating checker free?

Yes. The Bulk Domain Rating Checker on this page is completely free and needs no signup or credit card. You can check up to 50 domains in one run, with a fair daily limit per visitor so the tool stays fast for everyone.

Where does the Domain Rating data come from?

The ratings are Ahrefs Domain Rating (DR) values, fetched from Ahrefs and cached for up to 30 days. Domain Rating is Ahrefs' own metric — it is not a Google ranking factor.

What does a Domain Rating of 0 mean?

A DR of 0 usually means the domain is new, has almost no quality backlinks pointing to it, or is not indexed in Ahrefs' database yet. It does not automatically mean the site is bad — check its traffic and content before deciding.

What is a good Domain Rating for a guest post site?

For guest posting, most buyers look for DR 30 or higher combined with real organic traffic. A DR 35 site with 20,000 monthly visitors is usually worth more than a DR 55 site with no traffic at all, because DR alone can be inflated while traffic cannot be faked as easily.

What is the difference between Domain Rating and Domain Authority?

Domain Rating (DR) is Ahrefs' metric and Domain Authority (DA) is Moz's metric. Both estimate a domain's backlink strength on a 0–100 logarithmic scale, but they are calculated from different link databases, so the same site will have different DR and DA scores. Neither is used by Google.

How can I check Domain Rating in bulk without a daily limit?

In the free HarbiLeads desktop app, every domain the Bulk Email Finder finds is shown with its Domain Rating automatically — no separate checking step and no web limit. The app is free to start with daily credits and no credit card.

How often does Ahrefs DR update?

Ahrefs recalculates Domain Rating continuously as it crawls the web and discovers or loses track of backlinks, so a domain's DR can move up or down at any time. This checker caches each result for up to 30 days, which means a score shown here can be a few weeks behind a sudden change.

DR is step one. The email is step two.
